A Ridiculously Inconsistent Treasury Clark Brooks 9781477452165 Books
It's been a while since I enjoyed a good read this much. "A Ridiculously Inconsistent Treasury" is a loose collection of short stories most of which seem like recollections of personal experiences. Many of them are in fact, but many of them, author Clark Brooks assures us, have been embellished, and some are pure fiction. He even arranges them in groups, so labeled. His voice is so consistant throughout however, that you find yourself wondering which might be which, regardless of the section they were assigned to.One of the most consistant features of that voice is that it's always funny, often 'laugh out loud even though your in a public place' funny. In fact the opening paragraph of one piece ended with a sentence that caught me so off guard that I had to put the book down until I could regain my composure (I was laughing so hard). Brooks' content and style put him easily in a class with great story tellers like David Sedaris and Jean Shepherd. The book's only shortcoming is that it's over too soon, and there isn't a whole stack of Clark Brooks books waiting for me to read. I hope he publishes some more, and soon.

A Ridiculously Inconsistent Treasury Clark Brooks 9781477452165 Books Reviews
Go Clark , Thanks for bringing laughter into peoples life . Its definitely fun . Keep up the good work
OK, like many of the stories in this compilation of musings, the title to this review isn't wholly true. I was drinking a frozen daiquiri while reading a portion of this book and I did choke while laughing at a particular excerpt ... and this occurred on more than one occasion except I had switched to a virgin mojito. However, nothing ever shot out of my nose. I just really wanted to get your attention.
If you like slightly warped views on the world, you will absolutely love this book. Clark manages to take mundane tasks in life and turns them into mini-sodes of the best written sit-coms. Since such television programming is few and far between, do yourself a favor and read this book and let the TV of your mind do the rest of the work.
For instance, while most of us who use the drive-thru window at a fast food restaurant just order and go, Clark has a complete Tele-novella experience. Do you think going to the self-check out lane is an arduous task? Find out how Clark manages that lane. Hell, even signing up online to become an ordained minister is far from run of the mill. Oh man, and do NOT, I repeat DO NOT piss him off. The things he would say if he was a jerk would blow your mind if you ever knew what he was thinking but you won't because he isn't that much of a jerk ... or so he says.
Anyway, I don't want to give too much away. I haven't literally (and I mean that literally not some hipster 'my-vocabulary-is-lacking' sort of literally) laughed out loud this much while reading a book since perusing the demands my ex-husband was making during our divorce.
Good read.
Disclaimer I may or may not be a friend of Clark's. I suppose it depends on your definition of "friend." Or, maybe more accurately, it depends on his definition...
But, I can also tell you that I regularly tell my friends they're not funny, so I don't have any fear of this "friendship" tainting this review. I know funny.
This book is not funny. It's hilarious.
A man who can look at a sock on the ground and turn it into a story with laugh-out-loud potential is talented. Clark Brooks is truly that kind of talented.
